At Kenneth Gordon Maplewood School you see dynamic and capable children who find joy in learning while tapping into their full potential. As with any good school, you see boys and girls engaged in classroom study, art making, sports, music and structured play. What makes Kenneth Gordon different are the ways in which we weave these diverse activities into a tapestry of educational opportunities that are tailored to individual learning styles.

History

Our program is unique. Founded in 1973 by Anne Rushworth, Kenneth Gordon School was established for children were not reaching their potential in developing their reading, writing, spelling and mathematical skills. Based on training she received at the Remedial Reading Centre at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Mrs. Rushworth employed the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching children with language-based learning disabilities. This one to one method of tutoring, based on a phonetic approach, is organized sequentially and is multi-sensory in nature.

Today, Kenneth Gordon is recognized as a leader in the field of language-based learning disabilities. The school has continued to evolve and expand and is now a fully accredited co-educational independent day school offering a full range of customized programs for students in Grades 1 to 8. We remain dedicated to maintaining this long tradition of educational excellence.
